Overview Location Details Site Photos Registration T-Shirt Contest Video Policy Time Machine Ridesharing

These photos were taken on our first visit to the con site, and as usual are more quick-and-dirty snapshots rather than good photos, so please have mercy :). Surprisingly, we had wonderfully fine weather when we visited the con site. The building is in a very good shape, and there's more room than we had ever dared to hope for. We were very lucky to get this youth hostel, as this year's Eurofurence takes place at the same time like the Expo2000 in Hannover and everything even remotely near to Hannover is usually booked out during that time. Click on the thumbnails to get larger views.

The site viewed from the parking lot. As you can see, the area is nicely surrounded by trees. There are no direct neighbours we could disturb, the nearest building is a school's gym.

The courtyard and the main building. The location is still within city limits, that means we will not be located as far out as in previous Eurofurences. The nice thing is, it takes 10 minutes to get into the city. The drawback is, there's not as much nature around.

The great hall and main building from another perspective. The hall is a rather new addition to the house, and has been built just a few years ago. As you might have noticed, the photo on the "details" page, which I took from the brochure, still shows the building without the hall. The hall is accessible from all floors.

This is the dining room. It doesn't seem so, but we've been told that all 150 guests can fit in easilly. We'll need some furries who help setting the tables each day. We'll have professional catering, hopefully better than last year.

The cafeteria. This is, by the way, the only room where smoking is allowed. As you can see, there's a vending machine selling all kinds of stuff, so we do not have the problem of people not being able to buy drinks because all staffers being too busy to sell any. (This happened last year.)

The cafeteria again.

Another view of the dining room. The man in the back is the youth hostel's caretaker. Unlike last year's site management, these people look both friendly and competent. So far, they were both very cooperative and responsive. We're quite optimistic.

One of the four rather large conference rooms. All the rooms are similarly laid out, and can be used for all kinds of purposes. All conference rooms come fully equipped with chairs and tables.

Another conference room. This one will probably be our video room, as it lies below the surface, preventing the noise from disturbing anyone. It also shouldn't get too warm down there.

One of the bed rooms. Bedrooms are grouped together by separate hallways, and each hallway shares a large communal shower room and toilets.

Bedrooms come in several sizes, from two to 6 beds each.

The hangar. This is where the interstellar spaceships get refuelled and repaired. It boasts a vacuum-proof hull and freely adjustable artificial gravity. The doors will accomodate both terran and martian ships.

The staff lounge. Or at least the room which is likely to become the staff lounge, and maybe the sponsor's lounge, too. We will see.

Yet another conference room.

The great hall from the inside. There was an orchestra rehearsal at the time we were visiting. We think it would be the ideal room for the art show, but we're open for ideas what else could be done here :)

It's big! Unfortunately the only photo you were supposed to see on how big it is failed to develop. It's about 180 square meters.

Just ignore all the people.

Uhhm... hall. Great. Big. D'uh :)

The lobby. This is the entrance between the main building and the great hall.

Another outside view.

The parking lot. No trouble with the next parking lot being too small and too far away this time. We have enough room for about 20 cars, and there is more parking space in the side streets.

There's a bus stop right in front of the youth hostel.

There's a volleyball field outside. As you can see, it doubles as a swimming pool, when it rains :)

Ping pong ... ping pong ... ping ping ... ping pong ... ping pong ... ping pong ... ping pong ... ping pong ... ping pong ... ping pong ... ping pong ... ping pong ... ping pong ... ping pong ... ping pong ...

The main entrance.

The barbecue grill. Hopefully Akeela-compatible. Although we're not sure whether to make a barbecue or not this time yet.

The showers. The only picture we got.
