Traveling by Air

Via Hannover/Langenhagen (HAJ)

The best air connection to Magdeburg is Hannover Airport, located approximately 100 km to the west. Hannover is an international airport that offers connections to major European hubs such as Amsterdam (Schiphol), Paris (Charles de Gaulle) and London (Heathrow) which makes it an excellent choice for the long-distance traveller. Hannover also is a connection point for many regional and budget airlines, such as Air Berlin, British Midland, TUIfly and Aeroflot.

Hannover/Langenhagen has an excellent connection to regional and long-distance rail. There is a frequent rail service departing every 30 minutes between 4:30 and 24:00 from below Terminal C. With only a single change of trains at Hannover central station, the total travel time to Magdeburg is just less than 2 hours. Standard single fares are € 29 pp per direction before discounts. All in all, the total walk from the airport terminal to the convention hotel is less than 500 metres. For that reason, we advise against the use of a rental car – unless you have any kind of physical limitations there is simply no need for one.

For your convenience, there is a railway connection search form with pre-set values, which will also allow you to purchase tickets for the railway journey up to 89 days in advance. For further information, please see the section "Travelling by train" below.

Via Leipzig/Halle (LEJ)

Another nearby airport, roughly 70 km to the south of Magdeburg, is Leipzig/Halle Airport. This airport has flight connections to major German hubs such as Düsseldorf, Munich or Frankfurt. Leipzig/Halle also has a limited number of direct international flights, especially to Spain and the Mediterranean. There is a direct hourly InterCity train service to Magdeburg. Again, we cannot put enough emphasis on the pointlessness of a rental car here – it's literally a 500 metre walk from the baggage carousel to the hotel entrance. A single journey by InterCity takes just a little more than a hour. A standard single fare is € 21 per person. Alternatively, there are slower trains available. These services include an additional change of trains and a marginal savings. Single fare for regional trains is € 18.

To book tickets online, you may use this connection form, which will allow you to purchase tickets for the railway journey up to 89 days in advance. For further information, please see the section "Travelling by train" below.

Important notice regarding Berlin Airports (TXL/SXF/BER)

Please be aware that the opening of Berlin Brandenburg International (BER) has been postponed past the date of EF19. Flights to BER will be carried out via Berlin's original airports TXL and SXF instead.
Due to the poor connections of these airports, and due to potential travel disruptions due to construction work in the summer months, we do not recommend Berlin airports for travel to EF.

Traveling by Train

Just like the past few years, this year's Eurofurence location is easily reachable by train. Magdeburg is connected to the domestic InterCity train network, with through services to Leipzig and Bremen (via Hannover) and Dortmund/Koblenz (via Hannover, Essen, Düsseldorf). Services run at least hourly. The city's central railway station is located approximately 250 metres away from the hotel. It is easily reachable by foot.

To facilitate the search for connections, we've prepared this search form which will direct you to the DB railway enquiries web site with the most important values pre-set.

You can simply enter your departing station (within Continental Europe and the UK) and search for a connection that fits your planned itinerary. If you are in possession of a valid credit card or a pre-registered user on bahn.de, it is possible to obtain domestic and selected international self-print tickets up to 89 days in advance.

Traveling by Car

Magdeburg is conveniently located near a number of major motorways. The A2, one of Germany's major East-West thoroughfares, runs north of the city. Southbound connections can be made by way of the A14. The hotel is located just a bit off the B71, which runs through the western half of Magdeburg as the Magdeburger Ring bypass.

Given our enlightened age of satellite navigation, here are some brief recommendations on car travel. Consult the map provider of your choice, or simply plan your trip by car using Google Maps.

Western and eastern approach

From the East, take exit 70 (Magdeburg-Zentrum) toward Magdeburg. Follow the B189.

From the West, take exit 69 (Magdeburg-Kannenstieg) toward Magdeburg. Follow the B71. Upon approaching Magdeburg, turn right onto the elevated road, following the B71.

You are now on the Magdeburger Ring. Keep on the road for several kilometers, then take the exit MD-Zentrum/Hauptbahnhof. Note that there are several exits signposted "Zentrum", a helpful hint is to remember your exit comes after the exit leading to the B1. Upon taking the exit, go straight on, then turn right onto Ernst-Reuter-Allee and go through the Ring underpass and the railway underpass. Turn the second right after the railway underpass, then keep left for the hotel. The hotel has its own left turn lane.

Southern Approach

Leave the A14 at exit 5 (Magdeburg-Sudenburg) heading onto the B81 toward Magdeburg. The B81 will become the B71 after a short while, and you will find yourself on the Magdeburger Ring. Go on for about 5 km, then take the exit signposted MD-Zentrum/Hauptbahnhof. Turn right after the exit and go through the railway underpasses. Turn the second right after the railway underpass, then keep left for the hotel. The hotel has its own left turn lane.

Ride sharing

If you don't like going by train or do not want to pay several days' worth of parking fees, why not look at our ridesharing board to see if anyone is travelling when you are, or post a request yourself.

Parking

Low Emission Zone Laws
