The Eurofurence 15 Charity: The Wild Animal Park Suhl

lynxinterview

This year's charity is supporting the protection of the biggest European wild cat: The Lynx. So, Mr. Lynx, would you be so kind to introduce your institution, please?

Yes, of course! Hello! I am one of the lynxes living at the Wild Animal Park in Suhl, the town where your convention Eurofurence 15 takes place. You have just got to visit me here, the park is wonderful! It's situated in a lovely valley between the mountains, and there's even a little river flowing through it.

Thank you! So, why is this wild animal park supported by the charity this year?

Sadly, we don't have many visitors and the little profit the park generates is barely enough to feed the animals and not enough to cover the expenses for some necessary repairs.

I heard your wild animal park tries to help endangered species?

Yes, we do. Yes, and we lynxes aren't the only endangered animals who are cared for here. The wild animal park also takes part in the breeding program of the European mink. We also keep two kinds of endangered domestic animals in our park: the Rhoen Sheep and the Thuringia Forest Goat.

Wow, that's amazing! What else does the Wild Animal Park participate in?

We try to give people the opportunity to get close to animals and nature again. Each summer we organise one day when the visitorsare invited to get a closer look. People can visit the stables and see close up how the animals are fed and cared for. We also invite young people to do an internship as a park keeper.

I heard you even offer something special for handicapped people?

That's right! Once a week we give handicapped people the opportunity to take care of little animals (like rabbits). It´s a great experience for both sides and each can benefit from it.

Amazing! This really sounds like a project we should support! It's good to see that your wild animal park cares for the connection between animals and humans.

We do our best!

Mr Lynx, thank you for taking the time to talk to us.

You're welcome!
