Eurofurence Rules of Conduct
Eurofurence likes to present itself as a professional convention. We
also hope that each attendee has all the fun that our wide-ranging community
can provide. Please be aware of how your actions reflect on the convention and
how they may impact or affect others. We take pride in our appearance and we
want you to as well while still having fun. Offending newcomers, visitors and
consite personnel is not appropriate. Impressing them with how much fun and
enthusiasm we have in our fandom is. What you consider to be acceptable
behavior may not be so for others. We encourage that courtesy from all
participants in our community. Eurofurence reserves the right to exclude
people from the convention on the grounds of blatant or repeated violations of
the Rules of Conduct. This is not limited to incidents on the convention
premises, but may as well be applied to transgressions outside of the con area.
Gross misbehavior does not become acceptable just by taking it elsewhere.
Registration and Badges
Only registered attendees may enter the convention space. Please always wear
your badge, think of it as your admission ticket. If you fail to show your
badge when security asks you to, you might be asked some uncomfortable
questions.
Age Restrictions
Unlike in earlier years, all attendees of Eurofurence must be at least 18 years
old. This restriction had to be put in place because of reasons of liability,
and does not imply a general content rating. While adult themes are certainly
present in restricted areas, we do not wish to shove them into anybody's face.
Some people may not care for it. Be considerate of other furs, hotel staff, and
uninvolved folks, and consider what kind of material (comics, art, or
sketchbooks for example) you want to show or pass around.
Behaviour and Clothing
Unless you're inside your private room or part of a stage act, the usual
standards for public behaviour apply. Your demeanor reflects on the fandom as a
whole. Don't miss the chance to act as an ambassador of furry fandom! It is of course technically impossible to make a complete list of allowed and disallowed behaviour and clothing. Therefore, our security staff has the freedom to make decisions on site, and ask you to stop an activity or to move it to a private room when it is deemed inappropriate. Security staff decisions are final, and must be followed without discussion. It's just not possible to discuss policy during the convention. If you're planning to bring and wear any very unusual or controversion costumes or outfits, or planning to engage in any kind of unusual activities, please contact the con comittee BEFORE the convention, and ask. This will give us the chance to give you a definite "yes" or "no" and avoid awkward encounters with security staff disagreeing with what you do or what you wear. To make things a little easier, here are some rules of thumb which should give you a pretty good idea of what is generally deemed acceptable: For example, kissing and holding hands, regardless of sexual orientation, is perfectly fine. On the other hand, Groping, tongue battles, nudity and beyond, regardless of sexual orientation, is not. Remember that your personal preferences or fetishes may offend those who do not share it, and who may not want to be associated with it. If you expect respect from others - especially from people outside of the fandom - show them respect in turn. While collars and leashes may be worn discreetly, blatant displays of bondage and BDSM in public are not allowed. Public exposure of genitalia, buttocks or (female) breasts is definitely not permitted. As a rule, a minimum equivalent of a non-thong bathing suit must be worn at all times in public areas. "Anatomically correct" costumes must be likewise clothed. It is also explicitly not allowed to visibly wear diapers or baby outfit in public, even if its part of a costume. Harassment and Assault
No means no. Stop means stop. Go away means go away. If someone won't
understand these simple rules, contact a helpful member of security. They have
the right to exclude attendees from the convention for not following these
commands. Harassment is any behavior that intentionally annoys or alarms
another person. This includes unwanted physical contact, following someone
around in a public area without a legitimate reason, or threatening physical
violence. If you are being harassed, immediately go to any member of security.
The matter may be referred to the proper law enforcement authorities.
Alcohol and other Drugs
Eurofurence does not tolerate the serving of alcohol to minors. If you have a
private party at which alcohol is served, please designate a responsible adult
to not drink, so that there is a fully competent person present to deal with
any emergencies that might arise. Eurofurence can not tolerate the use of
illegal substances, regardless of the circumstances. Violation of the above
rules will subject you to the immediate exclusion from the convention and
referral of the matter to the police. The last thing we want is for
someone attending our convention to end up in the hands of the local law
enforcement authorities, in the hospital, or even worse.
Room Sharing and Privacy
While room activities can be considered private, accomodations are not off
limits. Regulations regarding alcohol and drugs are still in effect. Also,
please be considerate of people sharing the room with you. Space is limited.
Room assignment may group you with someone who does not join in, nor care much
for your private activities. They are guests too, so please be considerate.
Weapons, Water Pistols and Silly String
Due to the potential damage to property water guns, silly string and the like
are prohibited inside the buildings of the consite. When playing outside,
please do not hit any bystanders. Artists are present. Destroying original art,
sketchbooks, comics, or prints is not acceptable. All weapons, including replicas and toys, are subject to the (rather strict) German law, from a simple knife to an elaborate broadsword, especially if they are bladed! Generally all weapons must be checked by security staff. If a weapon is part of your costume, please ask someone of our security staff to approve it. You may be asked to leave your weapon with security, or in your room, if it is deemed too dangerous to carry around. Do not engage in swordplay or mock fights on the con premises. Have your weapon peacebound to show others that you are here to have a good time and not to behead someone. Handle your weapon, even peacebound, with the appropriate care. We do assume that, if you are carrying a weapon, you know how to behave safely. Remember that even relatively harmless items like staffs or foamcore swords can cause injuries in a crowded place. Try not to toy around with them. Photography and Videotaping
Eurofurence wants you to have great memories from a fantastic convention.
Photographs and videotape footage by attendees are generally allowed in all
common areas of the convention with the exception of the Art Show and Dealer's
Den. Due to the nature of the event, no flash photography is allowed in the
Pawpet Show. Specific rules regarding these matters may exist for other
selected events. When photographing or videotaping individuals or costumes,
please use common courtesy and ask before photographing them. Please respect
their rights if they do not wish to be photographed or videotaped. Likewise,
if you do not want to be photographed or videotaped, please make this clear to
the person behind the camera so they can react accordingly. Individuals may take pictures and videotapes for private viewing or sharing with friends. Photography or videography for the purpose of publication or sale to the press is expressly forbidden unless written permission has been obtained from Eurofurence e.V. Some events will be videotaped for the purposes of producing the convention highlights video. Videotaping may also be conducted in public areas of the convention. No videotaping by convention staff will be conducted in guest rooms or in any other areas where an attendee has a reasonable expectation of privacy. Attendees should be aware that footage gathered in public areas of the convention - including events and panels - may be made publicly available, for example as a convention highlights DVD, and that attendees may appear in such publications without compensation. Eurofurence will require a release only for footage that is obtained in areas that are not fully public (i.e. private functions and personal interviews.) Hotel Rules
In addition to the EF rules of conduct, the hotel house rules apply, including
but not limited to: No skinnydipping in the pool, or behaving rowdy in the
sauna. Don't run around half naked in the lobby. Drink only as much as you can
handle. Clean up after your dog. Be polite to the hotel personnel. Leave a tip
for the cleaning crew instead of a mess.
