Travel Information

First and foremost, the best method with the least hassles: Should you arrive at Nuremberg station, simply leave the station hall through the exit labelled "City / Mittelhalle" and take a taxi to the youth hostel. This will cost € 5 to € 10 one-way, making it almost as affordable as an underground ticket when you're teaming up with several people. Remember that you want to go to the youth hostel, not the tourist attraction!

If you do not wish to take a taxi to the youth hostel, take this route instead:

When you arrive at the Nuremberg main station, take the exit to the main hall labelled as "Mittelhalle". If you use certain elevators or staircases, you may find yourself in the Osthalle or Westhalle, but to take the underground to the convention site, you need to find the exit named "Mittelhalle" / "Ausgang City".

Eventually, you will end up at the main hall, near the escalators.

Take the escalator to the upper level of the underground station:

Walk past the fresco. Behind the wall you'll find a ticket machine where you can buy the ticket for your trip.

...and proceed down to the station level. Do not confuse U2 and U1, it's a bit tricky down there. You want to use U2.

IMPORTANT: You need to buy a ticket before you walk past these signs! Failure to present a ticket is a misdemeanour and can be fined with up to € 40, so please buy and cancel your ticket before entering the station. (The cancellation machines are the red machines near the center of the picture.)

Take the U2 or the U21, direction Flughafen or Ziegelstein. Trains depart from platform 4.

Disembark at the station Rathenauplatz.

At Rathenauplatz, use the exit labelled "Ämter der Stadt Nürnberg / Äussere Laufer Gasse".

At the distribution level, turn left near the bakery and use the escalator to get to the tram stop at street level.

At street level, cross the tram tracks and head for the bus stop on the other side of the tracks.

Take bus 36, direction Plärrer. Disembark at the bus stop Burgstraße:

Walk past the shelter and turn into the street on the right.
Almost there! Now walk up the hill...

At the fork in the road, hold to the right, do not take the steps to the castle (these will not lead directly to the youth hostel).

The entrance is right behind the steps.

Upon arrival at the airport, simply follow the signage there to the underground station, which is near the center of the arrivals hall. There's only one way to get away from the airport, namely taking a train of the line U2. Stay on the train until you reach the station Rathenauplatz, then follow the steps above.

If a problem arises or you should get lost during the trip, you can call us toll-free at (0 800) EUROFUR. Please note that due to previous abuse this phone number is no longer reachable from foreign countries - this also applies if you carry a cellular phone from abroad that's booked into a German network. Use a pay phone or a German cellular phone if you need to reach us. Please also note that due to logistical reasons we can -not- send a pick-up service. You _have_ to get to the youth hostel by _yourself_.
