The Artshow
Please read the important update!
So, you are an artist? A sculptor? A painter? Your topic is furry, and you are looking for the place to show your works to the public? Then the EuroFurence Art Show is just the event for you!

The Eurofurence Art Show is one of Europe's major display / sales exhibitions for furry-themed artwork. Everybody who has an interest in furry art is wholeheartedly invited to take part. On the art show you may:

  • Display artwork you created yourself
  • Show artwork (by others) from your collection
  • Sell either kind of art to con visitors
  • Look at other people's creations
  • ...and perhaps buy your favorite pieces!

This page contains all the information necessary to actively participate in the show. You do not need to attend the con yourself, but can either act through a representative who handles the display (and perhaps the sales) for you, or you can mail-in artwork which is then handled by EuroFurence.

Responsible for all aspects of the art show - artist relations, signup, technics, hanging and setup - are Watani and Cairyn. If you have any questions, just send them a mail under this address.

How to enter the art show

To display art in the EuroFurence art show, you will need four things:

  1. art (of course), ready for display (matted or framed)
  2. sufficient panel space to hang it
  3. a confirmation from Watani that this panel space has been reserved for you
  4. a bidsheet for each piece of art which tells the visitors of the art show who did that piece, who owns it, and what you charge for it (if you want to sell it).

Panel space is limited, so it's a good idea to reserve panels right now. If you don't, and wait too long - or even come to the art show without reservation -, the panels might be gone. Panels will be assigned in the order of reservation. If there are unclaimed panels left at the first day of the con, they can be claimed on location, first come, first served. There is no guarantee that there will be any panel space left by then, however.

Eurofurence charges no commissions, and no space fee for the rent of panel space.

Art panels

The basic unit of space for flat work is the panel, which is made of predrilled pegboard. Hooks that fit the panels are provided by EuroFurence, but your art still needs to have tabs attached. Be aware that some kinds of tabs are suitable for nails and screws, but might not fit the hooks.

Panels may be reserved in 3 sizes:

  • Large (Full panel): 2m wide by 1m high
  • Medium (Half panel): 1m wide by 1m high
  • Small (Quarter panel): 0.5m wide by 1m high

Please remember that the space you reserve must include any clearance between pieces, including space for their (attached) bid sheets. Your artwork may not extend beyond the edge of any panel; it may not interfere with any works displayed by other artists.

If you have never done this before, you can try the layout for your art at home: Arrange your pieces on the floor, and try out what looks best. This will give you an idea of how much panel space you need to reserve.

The panels are sturdy and large enough for most purposes. If you have extremely large pieces of art where a full panel would not suffice to hang it, or extremely heavy framing (wood frame and glass) you need two people to lift, or if you want to display three-dimensional sculptures, please contact Watani immediately so something can be worked out for that kind of artwork.

Important update about the Art Panels!

EuroFurence has decided to join Mephit MiniCon (MMC) for a joint venture in panel building - permanent, reusable panels that can be set up at either convention. That'll save costs, is ecologically sound, and provide a consistent environment for the artists on future European conventions.

Unfortunately, the new EuroFurence panels have to match the existing MMC panels now, to make transportation and setup easier and to provide one consistent panel size for the artists.

Instead of the the announced size of 2,44m wide by 1.20m high, the panels will be slightly smaller.

  • A large panel will be 2m by 1m;
  • a half panel will be 1m by 1m.
  • Small (Quarter panel): 0.5m by 1m

This panel size is valid for every claim already made, and every new claim that will be made from now on. Note that the reduced size is only (about) two thirds of the total area of the original panels (but still for free, of course...).

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. Please feel free to contact Watani if you have serious doubt about insufficient space.

Bidsheets and sales

Each piece of art will have a bidsheet attached (or have it hanging next to the piece) which provides information on the artwork, the artist, and more. The bidsheet is used for identification of the art, and for purchasing art. A piece of art is marked as "not for sale" by cutting off the purchase-related part of the bidsheet.

Visitors of the art show may bid on "for sale" pieces by writing their bid onto the corresponding bidsheet. The owner of the piece decides on a minimum price. The piece is sold to the highest bid at the end of the show. If five bids are offered, the piece will be sold in the art show auction.

Unsold pieces (having no bid) or "Not for sale" pieces are returned to the owner at the end of the art show.

You can download bidsheets in various formats here (where you also get an explanation of what to enter on the bidsheet). This way, you can easily fill the bidsheets at home, and not waste any time on it at the consite.

If you don't have the bidsheets done beforehand, you can get plenty of them at the con, but you will have to fill them by hand.

Art for display

EuroFurence is a furry con, and the artwork for display should be furry-themed. Related art, like wildlife / animal themes, is allowed, but artwork that has nothing to do with furry at all is strongly discouraged.

Artwork displaying one of the following will not be allowed for display:

  • Rape and sex involving extreme violence
  • Nazi symbols
  • Pedophilia

Artwork may be rated from General Audiences to Adult. EuroFurence does not censor entries - no little stickers necessary -, but the art show managers reserve the right to reject any entry nevertheless if the piece is deemed unfit for public display.

The art show is an adults-only area, no minors allowed. If you are a minor, but also an artist, you need to bring your legal guardian for the setup.

All flat entries must be matted, mounted and / or framed, and ready for hanging. (A simple matte board frame will do, the Artwork does not need to be behind glass. All art hung in a frame is highly appreciated!)

A clear plastic binder is not a frame. Please show a bit of respect for the art!

Artwork for display should be original, handcolored print, or at least limited numbered prints. Unlimited prints are strongly discouraged. If you would like to sell unlimited prints, please contact the dealer's den management instead.

How to get your art to EuroFurence

The easiest way to get your art to the art show is to attend the con and bring it with you.

If you cannot attend for some reason, you may also act through a representative who attends the con. For all art show purposes, the person you select as agent will act as owner of the art and may enter the art, hang it, and sell it. We recommend that you fill out the bidsheets yourself before the con to prevent any on-site misunderstandings.

We do allow mail-in art. You can use this option if you can not attend Eurofurence, or if you do not want to carry the art with you while travelling. Send an Email to Watani, telling that you will send artwork. You will then get a response email with details how to do it, and to which address. You will have to pay for all shipping costs for your art, both ways (except if you manage to sell all of it at the show). Also, EuroFurence cannot take responsibility for the safety of your art during transport, so you might want to send it insured.

We cannot accept mail-in art without our prior agreement, so please take care that you wait for the response.

Contact!

Now that you have read the rules, you can contact Watani to get your reservation. Be sure that your request includes:

  • your name, nickname, and proper return email address
  • your snailmail address and your birthday (to check whether you are a minor)
  • the panel size you wish to reserve
  • any additional information if you want to mail-in your art, or if your artwork needs special handling (sculptures)

We do not need to know how many pieces you bring, how big each piece is, or what's shown on it. You are responsible for hanging it yourself, so you should know whether your art fits the panels you reserved. If you notice later that you have more art to hang than originally planned, you can ask for an extension of panel space (provided that there are panels left).

You will receive additional information regarding art show hours, hanging instructions, etc., either with the confirmation of your reservation, shortly before the con, or at the con itself, depending on the nature of the information.

At setup, you will receive empty bidsheets from us, if you have not downloaded and filled the bidsheets yet. Art show helpers will assist you in hanging your art and filling out bidsheets, if required. Only artists or their representatives are allowed at setup.

During display, the art show is guarded at opening times to keep your art safe. No photography allowed. Outside opening times, the art show rooms will be locked.

The art will remain in the art show until breakdown, except if displayed at the auction. After a piece of art has been entered, it can not be withdrawn before breakdown. Unsold or not-for-sale art will be returned then.

Note that while we take care to protect your art as best as possible in a public display by setting up security guards and issuing regulations for guests, we can not legally insure your art, or perfectly guarantee its safety under all circumstances. We will try to regulate any possible damage on-site, but ultimately you hang your pieces at your own risk. EuroFurence offers this opportunity for free, and the art show managers hope you understand the conditions under which this offer is made.

Decisions made by the art show managers are final; no discussion. Please play fair and nice, and a lot of fun will be had by all. <
